Soutache Embroidery Macrame ....accessories
Maybe more people have heard about beading embroidery, or macrame, but more less about soutache embroidery.
So what is soutache? It's a type of braid or cord, more likely to be flat with a groove down the center, used in trimming of drapery or clothing beginning in fifteenth-century France, spread to Italy and becoming quite popular in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
I came across with the first soutache jewelry getting to know the work of one of the famous artisan Dori Csengeri some years ago.
What is that soutache jewelry technique, you will ask then. Well, it consist of sewing and embroidering the braid around the bead, or stone cabochon. The braid sometimes is stitch to a base fabric as for bead embroidery, but sometimes you can attach the beads directly between layers of cord, creating a very lightweight jewelry.
Now, each artisan could use his own method as there are many possibilities. What is important, it's the piece of art that comes out when the work is finished. There can be used different colors and shape of beads in combination with many colors of trim. So, set free your imagination and it will take you to the result you wanted...
